When looking at seeds on the Kopsick specimen(s), they will have a look that falls somewhere between those off Veitchia, and those off Foxtails. As far as I know it is possible for these two to hybridize. Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a foxy gold small one it’s almost like finding Waldo
Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor. The seeds that Mike Evans germinated were F2, there is no guarantee they will be Wodveitchias. Pretty sure they keep their variegation, at this stage we can already see the difference between the variegated lot and the greenies. I had about 7 seeds so I just planted them all, one popped. I have 6 mature foxy ladies and all but 2 are variegated.

- Hello, I’m a novice collector and bought a 15 gallon foxy lady from a seller in Temecula, CA about 2 and a half weeks ago.
- I believe most of the time the seeds never germinate but very occasionally they do.
- If you’re up to a good challenge, Kopsick Palm – Arboretum in St. Pete has a few specimens, at least one that can / has produced seed.
Foxy Lady in Trouble!
I hope/expect some new batches to hit the market sometime soon. This is a holy grail palm for many of us PTers. Going to a spot in the Los Angeles area If you know anyone looking who would make a good palm parent send em my way. It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already. Alas, the time has come.

Erik, the Foxtails were planted many months before the F1 Foxyladies. If so did they sprout around the same time frame? If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious. What I have noticed is that the width of the foxylady leaves tend to be a little wider and a little more dark hairs on the leaf bases.

I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida. Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2? I didn’t notice it until after the seedling got bigger…

I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. Beautiful palm hopefully it pulls through, good luck. Initially that doesn’t look like the LPS I’ve experienced or seen; I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. The core may be rotting, potentially? The line of dark spots is most concerning.
So after a couple weeks of treatment, the remaining leaves are browning but I have noticed some minimal growth (a couple millimeters) of the spear. If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too. This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse. That should happen in shade and then it should be shifted up and placed gradually into more and more sun over the course of a month or two until it is hardened and can go in the ground. Do you have a FULL shade spot under some trees or overhang?

I came across the legendary Foxy lady palm.
I did notice the dark spot on the side away from the walkway a while back, but it wasn’t really oozing anything at the time. Yeah I had one sprout a while back but had some irrigation issues to my potted plants in my absence and it ended up drying out and dying. Never noticed seed on the variegated Foxy located in another part of the collection. Floribunda had some f2 foxy ladies a while ago. The one I’m growing in Leucadia is from the same source and purchased about the same time, as this and another “Foxy Lady” I have.
- Some died at seedling stage, and others just died a slow death, even though they were all grown in shade.
- That thing is so root bound that you need to do slow drip like they do or just plant it.

The foxtails are the ones in community pots, and foxyladies are singles in 1 gal. It PROVES that it is a true foxy lady,as foxtails are almost never variegated. I’ve got several foxtails (probably too many, but it was the first “exotic” tree that I really liked), some common King palms, and some Kentias. Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it’s rootball watered. It never ceases to amaze me how little water rootbound palms in pots get, even if you soak them everyday.
Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting. I wonder if the very elongated seed has more Veitchia traits and the more rounded F2 seed has the foxtail traits? Typically I find the F1 does have the hybrid vigor, except when they are very variegated. Only the variegated FL produced viable seed so far, but none of the seedlings are variegated.
The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos. What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you
I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth (I wouldn’t be concerned with that at this point, except that the leaf has now snapped) Yes the Veitchia can and has been the host, I had one growing at my former residence , it looks like a Veitchia, with yellowish petioles. Foxyladies hold the variegation when mature. Here are a few slightly variegated ones.
